OUR MISSION
Fund for the Arts' mission is to provide “One Gift for all the Arts.” We believe that artists and arts organizations enhance the beauty and cultural richness of our community, and help drive its economic growth. By supporting Fund for the Arts, you are influencing the ability of all our member art groups to offer a vibrant arts scene in the greater Kanawha Valley.
WHAT WE DO
Fund for the Arts is a service organization that provides annual operating support to 11 member art groups throughout the greater Kanawha Valley. Founded in 1981 as a result of the joint efforts of the Kanawha Arts Alliance and the Charleston Chamber of Commerce now the Charleston Area Alliance, Fund for the Arts raises funds from business, foundations, and government, as well as individuals, to provide operating expenses for our 11 member arts groups. Our annual fundraising campaign also consists of two primary events, The Wine and Jazz Music Festival and the Capital Cocktail Classic.
HOW IT WORKS
Member art groups apply annually online and report extensively on their activities during the previous year. In October of each year, the Fund’s Screening and Allocations Committee meets to review applications and determine the percentage of available funds that we will distribute to each group the following year.
Once that amount has been approved by our board, we send a check to each group on the tenth day of each month for one twelfth of their allocation, ensuring that all our arts groups receive a dependable, steady flow of income to cover every day operating expenses.
